Why, or whynot??How did it make you feel??Would you say this was a successful piece??Tell us how they could improve for their next performance.courtesy of George Stevens AcademyKeep in Mind?It is helpful to be writing notes WHILE watching the dance, in order to notice certaindetails about the movement or thoughts you may have in the moment.?Beware of using the words “I liked” or “I disliked” as they are not very specific.?Make sure you support your opinions! For every time you make a personal statement(such as, “I feel…” or “I thought…”) you must cite a specific example(s) from the dancewhich explain why you feel that way.?Avoid storytelling at all costs. While you can compare the dance to things you’rereminded of, it is not your place as a critic to imagine a story for the dance you see. Also,explaining every aspect of the evening is not necessary. Concentrate on the things youfeel are really noteworthy (good or bad) and provide your opinion on those moments.?This is a critique, and you should use a critical eye! Don’t be afraid to question choicesmade by the choreographer, or point out things you felt may have been unclear orunnecessary.
